just read a fiction book about how the babyboomers are becoming senior citizens and the younger generation coming up in the world won’t be able to support the old folks so they will have voluntary suicides.
It’s dr. james dobons’s book cslled Childless
The babyboomers are a sort of population bubble – that cohort (1945-55) showed a large increase in births – since then the birth rate has dropped back so that the problem of too many old folks and not enough workers supporting them is not a permanent problem – and could be further reduced if a new, more liberal immigration law was passed
Hi
Ive been away a long time, and this discussion is a little dated, but here is my two cents
I think there should be a safety net to help people. Not only is it the compassionate thing to do, but I believe it helps the country as a whole be strong. I believe we are only as strong as our weakest link. Cliché I know, but I feel like it’s true. I think that part of the role of the government is to redistribute wealth so that the society as a whole can flourish. Especially in a capitalistic society, there needs to be some kind of check and balance system for greed.
I will start with that, and see if this is still active… I am updating my own site too, so we’ll see! I may even post on that, too!
I hope everyone is well!
Peace

A look at Macroeconomics shows that even in an extreme capitalist society, government action to improve and maintain the lot of all citizens leads to profits for everybody – the New Deal of the 1930s-50s is a good example – even discounting the boost WW2 gave America’s economy
