  • Teaching

Perhaps now is the time to really focus on those changes needed to improve education not only in the U.S. but world-wide.

Those countries with outstanding educational results seem to focus their efforts on selecting and training outstanding teachers rather than on the physical structure, curriculum, and administration of the educational program.

How do you think Education can be improved? Is now the time to drastically change government control of and input into schools?

  • Good systems also have student bodies that aren’t running wild and instead want to learn. Good systems elsewhere allow school systems to disapline students. Maybe it would also help if teacher’s unions didn’t have so much power.

  • Hi Susan -I’m not sure I really like this new format – seems unnecessarily complicated just to get to comments.
Your comment is obviously on the mark and does illustrate a real problem – probably the result of trying to keep those in school who are not interested or can’t learn at the required level. Maybe we need a different – more appropriate for our present culture – type of education system

  • Is education just to become employed? That is, just for economic reasons, or is it to fit youth into our culture – if that is the purpose, what part does economic progress play and how well are our schools doing?
I think the main problem lies in the answer to these questions and the fact that our educational system doesn’t seem to be even aware of its primary role.
